About Mingachevir
Founded in 1945, Mingachevir is one of the youngest cities of Azerbaijan. Today, this developing and beautiful city, located in a picturesque area on the banks of the Kur River, is not only the main energy center of Azerbaijan (65% of all electricity in the country is generated here), but also a tourist destination. Mingachevir is also known as a sports hub. The city houses the famous Olympic training and sports center, which welcomes sportsmen from around the world. It is worth visiting Mingachevir at the very least to taste the delicious Kur fish in the shade of cozy cafes, swim near the azure beaches of the Mingachevir reservoir or take a boat tour on the Kur River.
Kur Olympic educational and sports center formerly known as the “rowing Base”, the kur Olympic training and sports center is one of the symbols of Mingachevir. The center holds regular training sessions for and competitions among the teams of professional rowers from many countries of the region and the world. This place is, rightly, considered unique, since it has suitable conditions for year-round training and holding of high-class internationals competitions in rowing and canoeing. The advantages of the center Kur include the presence of open water, mild climate with a minimum of precipitation and winds, as well as the presence of all the necessary facilities, accommodation and availability of special sports nutrition. The Center includes a swimming pool, a gym, an originally designed (ship shaped) hotel, a rowing club, a tennis court, a boathouse for storing boats, the restaurant ‘Gulla’, as well as a number of other facilities. It is worth mentioning that the center has a huge poplar planted in 1875, where tourists love to take pictures.
